A FUNERAL director is backing a hospice’s annual memorial appeal.

N Alderson Funeral Directors, based in Durham, is supporting the 2012 Light up a Life appeal of St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham City.

The appeal encourages people to remember a lost loved one by making a donation to the hospice in their memory.

In return for a donation, participants receive a commemorative card and photo star and their loved one’s name is entered into a book of remembrance which is dedicated during a Light up a Life service, to be held in Durham Cathedral on Sunday, December 9, at 6.30pm.

Norman Alderson said: “My mother would have turned 100 during 2012, so we can remember her life and legacy with extra special pride this year.

“Also, my father’s birthday fell on 28 December, so Christmas is always a time for me and my family to reflect and cherish the memories of what a wonderful, hard-working and committed man he was.”

The hospice provides free care for people with life-limiting illnesses. For more information, call 0191-3861170.
