A FIVE-day festival celebrating a 20th Century composer will be held later this week (November 28-December 2).

Musicon, Durham University’s professional concert series, has organised a celebration of the work of American John Cage, best known for his 1952 composition 4’33”, which is four minutes and 33 seconds without sound.

The event will feature The Ives Ensemble, soprano Lucy Schaufer and more.

It is called ‘from zer0’(CORR) and is being staged to mark the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth, in Los Angeles on September 5, 1912.

There will be concerts in Dunelm House, New Elvet, Durham, on Wednesday and Thursday at 7.30pm; Durham University Music School, on Palace Green, on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm; and the College Chapel of St Hild and St Bede on Sunday at 3pm.

Tickets for all concerts are £10 for adults, £4 for students and £1 for under 18s.
