TRAIN passengers who saw a man punched and headbutted are urged to call police.
It happened aboard the East Coast service between Newcastle and Darlington on Friday October 26 between 7.20 and 8pm.
The victim, a 37-year-old man from Doncaster, boarded at Newcastle with his partner and searched for their pre-booked seats in Coach G.
They found two men in their seats and when they asked them to move, one stood up and punched him in the face.
A scuffle ensued and the suspect then headbutted the victim.
PC Tanya Rickard of British Transport Police, said: “The victim sustained cuts to his forehead and has been left very shaken by the incident."
She said they wanted to hear from anyone in Coach G who witnessed the assault to call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Callers should quote log 545 of 26 October 2012.
