A GUIDE leader is standing for election to represent tens of millions of young people across Europe.
Jenni McDermott, from Durham City, is standing for election to the board of the European Youth Forum, which represents young people’s organisations across the continent.
The 20-year-old, who is already chair of the Girlguiding UK delegation to the British Youth Council, will learn on Saturday whether she has been elected to the body, which campaigns across Europe on issues such as youth unemployment and internships, education, volunteering and participation.
Ms McDermott, who is also a leader with the 6th Durham City Guides, said: "I have been interested in youth politics from an early age, involved in school youth council and local initiatives".
She added: "If I’m successful this role will be a huge honour, and will allow me to develop a range of skills while representing the views of guiding members across Europe on issues that they’re passionate about like non-formal education, volunteering and equality."
