Angel wrapped up for winter

The Northern Echo: WINTER WONDER: The knitted scarf wrapped around the Angel of the North WINTER WONDER: The knitted scarf wrapped around the Angel of the North

THE ANGEL of the North has been wrapped up against the winter chill as guerilla knitters yarnbombed it with a 50ft scarf.

The multi-coloured woollen scarf was fired over the 66ft sculpture using a bow and arrow before the knitters clambered up using rigging to wind the scarf around the body.

The Cold Angel project was set up by Bradley Garrett.

Mr Garrett, who describes himself as a writer, photographer and researcher at Oxford University, joined forces with felt worker Lucy Sparrow, who set to work with her knitting group to create the scarf.

The group set off from Hartlepool at 2am yesterday.

Mr Garrett said: “Shooting an arrow from a bow with fishing line tied to it in 30mph gusts and near-freezing temperatures and light rain is not as easy as it looks in films.”

What a totally pointless and childish exercise. Ridiculous; it doesn't even look anything like a proper scarf.
