TWO girls have high kicked their way to the World Irish Dancing World Championships being held next year in the United States.

Aisling Gorman, 10 from Ouston, and Megan Boddy, 12 from Washington, will take part in the solo competitions to be held in Boston in March.

Aisling has been dancing since she was just 18-months-old and this isn’t her first big Irish dancing event.

Her mother Dee Gorman said: "She’s just won the European Championship in Vienna in October".

As well as Aisling and Megan’s solo success, two teams from the same class held in Birtley have qualified for the world championships.

Ms Gorman, who runs the Irish Dancing class, said "This particular organisation for Irish Dancing is worldwide and dancers will be coming all together for the World Championship in Boston.

Most of the team haven’t travelled very far before. It’s a real adventure for most of them".
