A PLAY written to commemorate a North-East pit disaster which premiered this summer is to go on the road.

Seaham poet Bob Lowry and musician John Wrightson created She's Fired, in memory of 164 miners who died in an explosion at Seaham Colliery, County Durham, in 1880.

It was first performed at Sedgefield Folk Festival in August and the audience’s response was so positive there have been requests from venues across the region to host the play.

Joan Edmundson, who performs in the play with the John Wrightson Band, said: “Everyone who came out after watching it said it was a highlight of the festival.

“It is very emotional and brings that time to life, especially for people from mining families, and we are pleased to be sharing it with new audiences.”

She’s Fired will be at The Forum in Darlington on Wednesday November 28, 7.30pm.

Tickets are £6 from the venue on 01325-363135 or Mrs Edmundson on 01740-621347.
