SWD Wolsingham school celebrates students achievements

A SCHOOL has been gifted an Olympic torch by one of its governors to inspire students to achieve.

The torch carried by Charlie Donaghy through Darlington was presented to Wolsingham School and Community College in time for their award’s evening last night.

Mr Donaghy from Tow Law presented the torch at the same time as unveiling a new award for the pupil who has shown the greatest Olympic Values over the past year.

The torch will be kept at the school while the Olympic Values Award, which recognises respect, excellence and friendship, will become an annual prize.

The first Olympic Values Award was won last night by Matthew Patterson, while the other top awards, the Governor’s Choice and Headteacher’s prize went to Jordan Parker and Holly Barry respectively.

Both Jordan and Holly also carried the torch in the North East in the run up to the Olympics.

Anne Walton from the school said the awards recognised another year of outstanding achievement by Wolsingham’s pupils.
