NORTH Durham MP and Shadow Defence Minister Kevan Jones was in the Falkland Islands for Remembrance Day.

Mr Jones attended the Remembrance Day Service at Christ Church Cathedral on the Islands, before laying a wreath at the Cross of Sacrifice at San Carlos Cemetery.

This was followed by a visit to the 1982 Memorial Wood and a battlefield tour. Other attendees included the Duke of Kent.

Mr Jones said: “I am pleased to be able to visit the Falkland Islands again, and particularly to be able to spend Remembrance Day here.

“This year of course has special significance, marking thirty years since the Falklands War.

“The service at San Carlos cemetery gave us an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice of the service personnel who gave their lives in that conflict, and to remember those who continue to serve on active duty around the world.”

Mr Jones, who is also a Commonwealth War Graves Commissioner, also visited Stanley Cemetery to see its war graves and to present the museum manager with a plaque on behalf of the commission.
