A MOTORIST who tried to escape police only to drive into parked cars has been arrested.

A police officer approached a blue Kia on Clough Close in Middlesbrough but the male driver reversed the car trapping the officer, Cleveland Police said.

The driver then sped off but only got the short distance to Kensington Road only to hit parked cars.

He then got and off the car and tried to escape on foot but was arrested a short time later. A passenger had already been arrested at the scene.

The incident happened at about 11.30am today (Sunday, November11). Both arrests were for the aggravated taking of a vehicle.

A police spokesman said: “There were many people in the vicinity at the time as the nearby remembrance service had just concluded and police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.”
