COUNTER-TERRORISM advice will be issued to delivery drivers working throughout Teesside.

Cleveland Police have produced an ‘Aide Memoir for Terrorism’ which will be given to HGV drivers in order to help them remain vigilant in emergency situations and act upon any suspicious behaviour.

The business card sized document offers security advice concerning route planning, dangerous or high consequence loads, secure parking, vehicle security, suspicious activity and incident information.

DC John Bickerstaff, who came up with the idea for the cards, said: “A couple of years ago, the force produced an ‘Aide Memoir for Terrorism’ which outlined examples of what might be considered as suspicious behaviour and what the public should do if they come across a suspicious package.

“This ‘Aide Memoir’ follows on from this to offer security advice to lorry and wagon drivers. Much of this information has been taken from the VOSA website, with some additional advice from Cleveland Police.”

DC Bickerstaff will use the cards to demonstrate the work Cleveland Police are doing to identify terrorist activity when he speaks at the Transport Security Expo Show in London next week.
