Futures hang in the balance as boss calls a summit meeting

GARETH Southgate has called all his squad in for meeting today with several apparently on their way out of the club.

The Boro boss will not have long to savour an 8-1 win over Manchester City - the club's biggest top flight victory for 58 years - before he decides who he wants to stay and who can leave the Riverside before the start of next season.

Mark Schwarzer and Fabio Rochemback appear near certainties to leave with former skipper George Boateng among those whose future's are in the balance.

Schwarzer has been linked with Juventus, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich while Rochemback is expected to return to Sporting Lisbon.

"I'm going to be speaking to the whole squad - I've asked all the players to come in tomorrow,"

confirmed Southgate "There's been no decisions made on any players.

"Fabio Rochemback is a talented player and if a talented player is given time on the ball then he can destroy teams as he showed.

"I'm still surprised Afonso Alves allowed him to take the free-kick but it shows the talent Fabio has."

Rochemback was one of five scorers as Boro destroyed a City side whose minds appeared to be on the future of their manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The Swede is expected to be sacked this week and his final game in charge produced City's worst performance for years.

Richard Dunne's sending off after 15 minutes set the tone with Afonso Alves scoring a hat-trick and Stewart Downing (2) the main beneficiaries.

Rochemback and substitutes Adam Johnson and Jeremie Aliadiere were also on target as Boro registered one of the biggest wins in their history.
