Driver suffers head injuries in accident

A MALE driver has been flown to hospital by air ambulance with serious head injuries following an accident this morning.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the incident on the road between Barton and Darlington at 10.29am.

The driver, who is believed to be in his mid-30s and from Richmond, North Yorkshire, was removed from his car by fire personnel.

They and police were tending to him when a Great North Air Ambulance crew landed at the scene, at Willow Bridge Filling Station, near Newton Morrell.

It is believed the man's car came off the road and rolled into a ditch. His was the only vehicle involved.

He was taken to James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough.
