Keegan plans for Magpies future after Ashley talks

KEVIN KEEGAN is continuing to plan for next season after holding 'productive and constructive' talks with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley today.

Keegan was summoned to London this morning for a meeting with Ashley, chairman Chris Mort, newly-appointed deputy Derek Llambias, executive director (football) Dennis Wise and vice-president (player recruitment) Tony Jimenez at 11am.

There were fears that the gathering would lead to the departure of Keegan, just five months after he agreed to start his second spell in charge at St James' Park.

But, after Ashley heard the 57-year-old's explanation for his claims that Champions League football was out of reach for the Magpies, peace appears to have been restored on Tyneside.

Chairman Mort said: "It was a good meeting. It was both productive and constructive."

After an eventful week, Keegan will oversee Newcastle's final match of the season at Everton on Sunday.
