A TEENAGE boy and two men are being questioned by detectives after a dog was found wandering with its throat cut and multiple stab wounds.

A 16-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 35-year-old man, all from Middlesbrough, have been arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals and of criminal damage.

They face questioning at Middlehaven Police Office, Middlesbrough,today by detectives who have also called in RSPCA officials.

The three-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog was still alive when it was found in Middlesbrough's Princes Road. It was taken to an emergency vet, who put the animal to sleep.

Sergeant Nick White of Middlesbrough Police said: "This was a terrible, cruel attack on a defenceless animal. I'd urge anyone with information to get in touch with us."

Police have traced the dog's owner who was too distressed to speak to The Northern Echo.
