Middleton Rangers Match reports

25th November 2007 Brompton Juniors U13 1 Rangers U 13 'A' 7 Unfinished business after last weeks disappointment of the abandoned game stirred Rangers into some terrific pieces of finishing that simply blew Brompton away before the game had hardly got started. Brompton were slow to start following their 3 week lay off due to no fixtures and Rangers found themselves 3-0 up after only 4 minutes, and 5 up after quarter of an hour.

With the new formation again seeming to work the lads found acres of space to find wingers Keech & Waldock, who fired in numerous great crosses. In a fantastic first half Jonathon keech helped himself to 4 goals with some terrific finishing following great runs off the shoulder of the last defender, and with fellow forwards Joshua Norris and Thomas Waldock grabbing a goal each the game was over. As Rangers pushed for goals they conceded a good goal as Ford lobbed Robin from the edge of the box but the response was immediate as James Szoboszlai scored with a great shot into the top corner from the edge of the box to make it 7-1 at half time.

Typically as the coach scribbled down the scorers trying not to lose count no more goals were scored in the 2nd half despite both teams creating chance after chance in a thrilling end to end game which was a credit to Brompton as they never gave up.

Man of the match was awarded to Haydn Mckenna who prevented numerous goals being scored with last ditch interceptions.

Team : Robin Page , Daniel Petrusow , Luke Allenby , Haydn Mckenna , Matthew Simmons , Gavin Watson , James Szoboszlai , Daniel Paylor , Jonathon Keech , Thomas Waldock , Joshua Norris , Daniel Gladstone , Conner Goodfellow , Connor Geldart , Daniel Hodgson , Tom Pilkington.

18th November 2007 Rangers U13 'A' 4 St.Francis 2000 U13 0 (Match Abandoned 42 Minutes Player Injury) Rangers hosted in form St. Francis unbeaten in 3 games, including beating table toppers Grangetown the previous week. The game started at a brisk pace and both sides were playing attractive flowing passing football with chances missed by both sides until Jonathon Keech decided to put in one of his wonder shows bursting to life in his new wide position, scoring once and creating 2 further goals for Joshua Norris who followed in well to respond to two good saves from Keechy's super strikes at goal to give Rangers half time lead of 3-0.The first half was a fine all round performance with most players excelling in the new formation of the team with the midfield of James Szoboszlai, Gavin Watson and Daniel Paylor particularly good.

Although 3 goals down St. Francis were by no means out of this game and continued to show great spirit throughout but had no luck in front of goal and 7 minutes into the 2nd half Keech again broke free, held off the defenders and fired an unstoppable shot into the net off both crossbar and post to make it 4-0.

Joy , however immediately turned to despair as unfortunately in a desperate bid to stop Keechy getting a shot at goal Kyle Osland sustained a broken ankle in 2 places and the game was abandoned as everyone awaited the response of an ambulance. We all wish Kyle a speedy recovery and have sent our best wishes to him.

Man of the Match was awarded to Johnathon Keech for a superb unplayable performance.

Team: Robin Page , Daniel Petrusow , Luke Allenby , Haydn Mckenna , Matthew Simmons , Gavin Watson , James Szoboszlai , Daniel Paylor , Johnathon Keech , Thomas Waldock , Joshua Norris , Daniel Gladstone , Kyle Hacking , Conner Goodfellow , Connor Geldart , Sam Notman , 11th November 2007 Trimdon United U13 3 Middleton U13 'A' 1 Rangers travelled to Trimdon expecting a tough game and got it! Various chances were created during a goal-less first half with Trimdon hitting the bar with a long range free kick, that Robin had done well to cover if it had been below the bar and Rangers squandered 3 good chances from inside the box when a goal seemed certain. The 2nd half continued in the same way as an un heard of 0-0 game looked the more likely score until Tom Pilkington picked the ball up in his own half and went on an unbelievable dribble that took him past the whole of Trimdon's midfield and defence before crashing an unstoppable shot into the net from the edge of the box to give Rangers the lead. As the game entered the final quarter Rangers pressed the panic button and Trimdon took full advantage to score 3 times without further reply to win 3-1.Special praise goes to all the lads that showed great restraint during the game as the game was quite physical and decisions didn't go their way in the latter stages, but who cares? Winning is not everything and our time will come if our hard work continues. Man of the Match was awarded to Daniel Petrusow for his fantastic effort in defence for Rangers.

Team: Robin Page , Daniel Petrusow , Haydn Mckenna , Luke Allenby , Matthew Simmons , Gavin Watson , Thomas Waldock , Daniel Paylor , Kyle Hacking , Conner Goodfellow , Joshua Norris , Daniel Gladstone , Tom Pilkington , Sam Notman.

Middleton Rangers U14's 4 V Beechwood 0 This was very good match that could have gone either way. Beechwood started the quicker with their fast forward play pushing Middleton backwards. However, as the half went on Rangers started to get the upper hand. Both teams had a number of chances but could not convert into gaols, with a half time score of 0-0.

Beechwood had to replace their goalkeeper at half time, and Rangers changed their forward line. The game became very physical without being dirty and Middleton became more dominant. John Meki eventually put Rangers ahead with a good head home from a corner. A long John Meki lob down the pitch was fired home by Middletons Craig Abbott for a 2-0 lead. Rangers James Anderson then cleared the ball to Taylor Cardus who drilled the ball home for a 3-0 scoreline to Rangers. Taylor then popped up to half volley a second goal into t he roof of Beechwoods net for a 4-0 lead. Beechwood nearly pulled a goal back, but Richard Dinsdale pulled off a great full length save for Middleton. After a dismal England performance in mid-week it was a joy to see two teams playing with such passion, overpaid professional players should take note !!.

Team Dinsdale, Anderson,Meki, Hall, Hunt, Turnbull, Gayles, Dodds, Herrington, Cardus, Noble, Abbott, Bowman, Binks.

Leeming 0 V Middleton Rangers U11's 6 Table toppers Middleton secured a hard fought 6-0 win at Leeming FC. Rangers were on top in the first half with their forwards Lucca Dunn, Will Hughes, Mitchell Armin and Bradley Bell all going close with goal bound shots. Midway through the half Middletons Joe "the hit man" Abbott, the leagues top scorer, slotted two quick goals for a half time lead on 2-0.

The second half was dominated by Rangers. As usual their speedy forward play pushed Leeming back into their half of the pitch. Joe "the hit man" Abbott popped up with two more goals to secure another hat-trick for a 4-0 lead. Middletons, Matty Anderson then headed two corners just over the bar as pressure mounted, before "Man of the Match" - Aaron "the engine" Chapman scored a superb goal into the roof of Leemings net. As time ran out Leeming pushed forward and Middleton's Alex Scott pulled off two great full length saves to ensure Rangers solid defence kept a nil scoreline two weeks in a row. Mitchell Armin capped off a fine Rangers performance drilling the ball home from the edge of the box to finish off the game 6-0 to Middleton.

Team: Alex Scott, Andrew Morrison, Rory Hunter, Josh Ferguson, George Musty, Matty Anderson, Aaron Chapman, Will Hughes, Jake Richardson, Joe Abbott, Bradley Bell, Lucca Dunn, Mitchell Armin.

Middleton Rangers U10a 0 Newton Aycliffe 0 This was a hard fought game which ended in a 0-0 draw with Middleton Rangers defence always on top.

The 1st half was very even with both sides having chances to score. Harry made some crunching tackles and timely blocks and alongside Ben produced a solid defensive wall in front of the impressive Connor in goal, who's handling was again exemplary.

The midfield trio of Daniel, Haani and Alistair pushed forward as much as possible in the 1st half and their passing and movement produced chances for Saafi who was the lone striker.

There were few clear chances in the 1st half with Daniel shooting over the bar the closet Middleton came to scoring.

The half time score of 0-0 reflected an even game with both defences on top.

The 2nd half saw Middleton Rangers defending for most of the half as Newton Aycliffe, pushing for a winning goal, won the majority of the loose balls which forced Middleton Rangers to defend deeply.

However, the whole team defended manfully, with Man of the Match Harry and Daniel getting a special mention for their tackling, blocking and Conner for his handling. As Middleton Rangers were pushed back to defend it made it difficult to support Saafi who was isolated up front, but he was always an outlet when Middleton cleared from defence.

This match will be remembered for the defensive qualities of Middleton Rangers and is an example of how much they have improved, it will only be a matter of time before they turn draws into wins.

The second match was a bigger battle, it was us in second playing West Auckland in third. The previous match earlier in the season was a titanic struggle with West auckland trying to use their physical side to dominate the game but we were not going to let them. The game was underway and West Auckland put Rangers under some early pressure and took the lead after a mix up at the back. Now Rangers were on the back foot and would have to fight for this victory, Rangers started to get their passing game going and put pressure back on West. A longe range shot from Nathan Stpehenson made the net move and brought about the equalliser, the first half ended 1 - 1 and the second was going to be another battle. The rain was getting heavier and the wind was blowing, it was getting colder but the lads could not feel it as the adrenalin was flowing. Rangers had more of the second half and were taking control of the match but some quick breaks from West were adding to the tension. The game was flowing between the two teams and anyone could win the game. Rangers had 2 cleared off the line and also hit the post.

With 2 minutes to go a long range power driver from Nathan Stephenson into the top corner for his 49th of the season and put Rangers in the lead. Some frantic attacking from West nearly gave them the equaliser but the defence and Andrew in goal kept their heads and played their game. Final score 2 - 1 to Rangers.

A great game of football a pleasure to watch even if it was a bit nervious and tense at the end.
