While most young people were over indulging in Easter Eggs this weekend three young and ambitious swimmers were representing Darlington at the City of Sheffield Swim Squad Premier Meet in the 50m pool at Ponds Forge.
Over the three days of intense competition Jake Cowton, Chloe Coates and Iain Rossington produced some excellent swims with Cowton and Coates making the Finals on both Saturday and Sunday Iain Rossington was competing as part of a recovery programme after a long lay off following a broken ankle and a prolonged viral infection. Much to everyone's surprise he didn't just put down marker times but produced personal best times (PB's) in his 50 and 100 Freestyle and 50 Butterfly. Chloe Coates produced PB's in 50 and 100 Free and 50 Fly and made it to the finals in the breaststroke. But it was Jake Cowton that brought home the medals as he saved his best till last producing his fastest times this season to win silver in the 100 and the 200 freestyle in the 14 year old age group.
Head Coach Fiona Miller said "It was a long and tiring weekend for a small squad but I would like to thank my swimmers for their determination and total commitment throughout this weekend. We have a busy schedule of galas over the next couple of months and I am confident that as a club at all levels we will see many more results like the ones we have seen this weekend".
