Welcome to the online edition of The Northern Echo's grassroots sport weekly Local Heroes. Thanks to the commitment of people involved in grassroots sport, Local Heroes has brought readers everything from fishing to football since 1999.

Now, those who have contributed to Local Heroes over the years are bringing you the best in grassroots sport directly, through our new community run online edition of Local Heroes.

All the pages you see here are updated by members of the community with a passion for grassroots sport.

If you are involved in grassroots sport in the North-East you can become part of the Local Heroes online community. Simply fill out the form at the bottom of this page and we will get back to you.

A DATABASE system has been launched to help give grass roots sports enthusiasts access to qualified coaches.

The database has been launched by Darlington Borough Council’s Sports development Team to assist schools, clubs, community groups and leisure providers to find coaches.

The scheme ensures sports coaches have the necessary qualifications, and are Criminal Records Bureau checked.

Anyone interested should contact Paul Foreman, Sports Development Officer, on (01325) 254370 or email him at paul.foreman@darlington.gov.uk.
