The Readers Durham County League
Esh player Rizwan Malik could be sidelined
ESH Winning and Shildon
Railway are striding out
confidently at the top of the
table, each enjoying 100 per
cent records after opening with
three consecutive victories.
But the talk of the league is the
remarkable run-fest witnessed
at Kimblesworth last week.
Brandon didn't know what hit
them as Stephen Meek and
Paul Craig flayed the visiting
bowlers to all parts of the
ground in an opening stand of
327 made in just 31 overs.
The stand was a record for any
wicket in League history, and
both set personal bests, Meek
164no and Craig 163.
Kimblesworth batted on when
Craig was out and posted 402
for one, another record.
Meek's knock included 18 fours
and five sixes, Craig's innings
had 17 fours and nine sixes.
The win maintained the
recovery from the opening day
defeat by Esh and kept them on
the leader's coat-tails.
Kimblesworth travel to
Mainsforth today with the same
side.
Esh Winning fears that
professional Rizwan Malik
could be sidelined with a
shoulder injury have proved
unfounded and he will be back
for the visit of Ushaw Moor.
With Stuart Hall unavailable,
there is just the one change for
the champions.
Other than the top two, the
Moor are the only undefeated
side.
Shildon Railway take their
unbeaten record to Evenwood
hugely encouraged by the
impressive debut last week of
their new pro Hemanth Boteju.
The Sri Lankan bagged an
immediate five-wicket haul and
then batted sensibly to see the
team through to victory. The
home side are still missing their
influential skipper Chris
Coatsworth.
There is plenty of interest
attaching to the game at Crook,
where Langley Park are the
visitors.
Home captain Andy Burgess is
unavailable so Lee Morton
takes over, and Andy O'Pray, a
former Ireland Under-19 World
Cup player, debuts.
Not to be outdone Park
introduce their new
professional to the league.
Indian Fahman Ahmrd arrived
last weekend and boosts a
squad missing Simon Huscroft.
Winless Brandon take on
Tudhoe, while Willington host
Etherley, who have only one
point from their two games.
