Duo in early crunch clash

WHITBURN take on Burnmoor in a game that could, even at this early stage, be season-defining for either side.

After slow starts, both are starting to display signs of the form that took them well ahead of the rest last year.

Whitburn lie second, with Burnmoor one point and one place further back.

The home team welcome back Eden Elstob after his recovery from injury and Craig Henderson gets his chance in the first team after making a mountain of runs for the seconds last week. Michael Smith is on holiday.

Burnmoor have an unchanged side, Alex Ludlow retaining his place.

Hetton Lyons and Boldon could dispute the match of the day tag attached to the Whitburn game as their head-to-head features first versus fourth.

Lyons take an unchanged side, including run machines Shaun Birbeck and Paul Riddle, into the game.

The visitors are delighted with the impact of West Indian Nelon Pascal and with the pitches getting ever harder as the weeks pass, they see his pace as being crucial to their longer term ambitions.

Two five-wicket hauls in successive days last weekend emphasises the point.

Eppleton entertain South Hetton in an intriguing battle - the pair have flattered to deceive so far this term and both will regard the game as a points scoring opportunity.

The trials and tribulations that face clubs these days in bringing in an overseas player are well known and there is still no certainty that Zimbabwean Elton Chigumbura will be in the line up for the home team, although they do know they will be without the in-form David Lowther. The visitors expect to be unchanged.

Philadelphia need a first win as they languish uncomfortably close to the drop zone.

One point and one place below them are Durham City, who are their visitors this afternoon.

Phili have Graham Hoban returning from holiday. City have Danny Moult returning, but Aussie pro Mark Woodhead is unavailable.

Horden came down to earth with a bump last week when they were humbled by Marsden and will be itching to get back on track in their home game with Felling, for whom Simon Pyle returns.

For Seaham Harbour things already look grim as they prop up the rest and they come up against a Marsden side buoyed by their change in fortunes.

Young spinning all-rounder Martin Fearon starts, but Brett Horgan misses the game with a knee injury.
