Champions Murton show no signs of losing appetite for winning

In the 3D Sports Durham Coast League, champions Murton wasted no time in showing they again have the appetite for success with an impressive opening day win over Silksworth.

Opener, Tom Raine, with a top score of 43, made sure they reached a competitive total despite excellent bowling from Mark Forster (6-75) and Phil Middlemass (4-25). Then Joe Dodd (6- 24) ripped through Silksworth's batting to make sure of a comfortable 50-run success.

Last season's runners-up, Castle Eden, started by celebrating with the first century maker, John Spellman junior, but were denied a win by the stubborn response of Bill Quay who fought well for draw points. Spellman's classy 118 saw his side reach 252- 7.

Another century came from Easington's David Tarn against Boldon CA but he surprisingly finished on the losing side. His unbeaten 106 came out of 176 after Carl Purvis (4-40) made it difficult for his team-mates.

Boldon's reply sparkled with Gary Critchley (70 not out) and Jason Jones (52 not out) taking the team to victory by seven wickets.
