10:44pm Tuesday 20th May 2008 in Tees College & Schools League By James Thomson
Basketball in association with Game Time Birthday Parties & Decorative Concrete Solutions
The Game Time Presentation Evening is Saturday 24th May at The Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough from 7-11.30pm. Over 180 tickets have already been booked to make this the biggest basketball presentation evening in the area with the forecasted figure exceeding 220. There are still some tickets remaining, but people are advised if you don't have a ticket you will be unable to gain entry. Anyone who would like to attend should contact Game Time on 01642 814221.
In addition to the awards there will be entertainment from the start as Game Time aim to put on an event that people will remember. At the doors people will be greeted by TFM's Graham Mack who will be shaking hands in his world record attempt to shake the hands of 100,000 people in a year.
Following the presentation will be a half hour show by Principul PSD, who recently launched his new www.principulpsd.com website and is about to launch his new album. There may be a preview of his new release which will be available to download on iTunes soon.
Principul will also have his break dancing crew member; Gizmo to wow the crowds and anyone who was at the Celebrity game will have been impressed by the incredible moves. To finish off the night will be a quiz and disco.
The evening will bring together all the leagues and clubs in the region, especially those associated with Game Time. There will be awards presented to the Teesside Basketball League, Tees Schools League, Game Time Central Venue League, Lions Club and Prior Pursglove College.
Some of the prestigious awards include TBL teams and players of the season for Division One and Two as well as Best School award and Most Improved School for those who have made the biggest strides forward in an attempt to improve basketball both on and off the court. The Coach of the Year award will also be presented in the Schools League category with a number of dedicated coaches nominated including Dave Pickford's late surge towards the end of the season for Y11 High Tunstall while the consistency of Darren Bun and Mike Garthwaite of Nunthorpe Lions and Blakeston Bulls may sway the decision. Norton Knight's Mark Rhodes is also nominated and with Norton winning the Y11 County Cup, would also be a strong contender.
In what has been a great first season of the Tees Schools league under the management of Game Time, the future of basketball looks very bright. Over 250 people watching a Year 11 cup Final is a great indication of the popularity of the sport and potential as a spectator orientated event and now the bar has been set, schools will now have to compete on and off the court to be recognised as the best basketball school for next season.
Head of Game Time, James Thomson, who runs the Tees Schools League, recently visited Blakeston School, Stockton where a huge basketball display featured the final league positions, photos of players & games, MVP's, recent news articles from local press and more. There were also images of the Finals event on big screen slide shows throughout the school and the efforts of the staff must be commended. The attention generated by the school applauds the efforts of those players representing their school and will encourage even more people to get involved in the game.
