RESIDENTS revelled in the benefits the Tour de Yorkshire will have on tourism when it comes to town this summer.

The Influence Church in Richmond hosted a talk by chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire Sir Gary Verity who gave an insight into the legacy the tour will bring.

He was joined by chair of Richmond and District Civic Society, John McDonald, who stressed the importance of maximising the effect of the tour on the town’s tourism.

Sir Gary finished his talk by highlighting the benefit to children through the new Cycle Libraries.

Over the last year, the initiative has helped 57,000 Yorkshire children have access to a bike.

The third day of this year’s tour starts in Richmond on Saturday, May 5.
