Matt: Have you got over your Rio Olympics disappointment and did it in anyway spur you on to prove the selectors wrong?

Lucy: Of course it would of been a dream come true if I was selected but because of the type of terrain the course was on, it was extremely out of my comfort zone. I'm not a climber so I wouldn't of been much use for Lizzie (Armitstead, now Deignan).

I was more disappointed that I didn't get selected for the World Championships in Qatar. That was a course that suited me so I was very upset to have not been selected.

M: You were the runner up in the Tour de Yorkshire last year, how did you feel last year and are you ready to go one better this year?

L: Last year was a completely different course to what it is going to be this year. I was super proud and happy to have been on the podium last year. I think this year I will play a different role because it is quite hilly and more riders on the team suit the course better than me. You never know what will happen over the climbs but the climb in the middle is very tough so it could split the bunch quite a lot.

M: Have you been able to look at the course yet, if so what do you think of it and which parts will suit you best and which parts are you perhaps not looking forward too much?

L: I was asked to do the recon with the Tour de Yorkshire organisation so I was lucky enough to see the course. It's tough. The first part of the race is ok, but in the middle there is a very hard climb which will be tough and which teams will want to make it hard going up there. Anything can happen as there is still quite a way to the finish line after the climb but it is very different to last year.

M: What do you think of the quality within your team as we count down to the start and who are the riders you will be looking at over your shoulder and why?

L: Wiggle High5 have a really strong team for Yorkshire. We will have a lot of cards to play which is really great for this type of course. I think Jolien D’hoore can win. She has just come back from the world championships and will be buzzing after her world title.

M: The last time we spoke you were still feeling the after-effects of your rib injury. Are you completely over that now and does a crash like that have any lasting effects mentally on a rider?

L: I'm completely heeled after my crash now. It was a nasty crash but actually I don't have any effect with moving forward with racing. I know it can be hard to mentally get back into it after a hard crash but for me I couldn't wait to get back racing again.

M: What are your main goals for 2017 and where does this year figure in your overall development as a rider?

L:It's my fifth year as a professional now so I am hoping to step up and mix it up in the finish again. It's been a while since I've last sprinted so it would be nice to get that feeling back. I help the team out a lot which I really enjoy doing but it would be nice to have a go for myself in a smaller race this year if it is possible.
