Prom, wedding, party or bridesmaid – if you’re looking for a dress with the wow factor, but don’t have thousands of pounds to spend on it, online fashion retailer Dressi might have just the thing.

Founded by entrepreneur Julie Blackie last spring, Dressi is the sister company of popular online brand Pink Boutique. But where Pink Boutique focuses on a casual and contemporary look, Dressi offers dazzling and unique pieces of occasionwear instead.

The aim of the brand is to bring a touch of affordable glamour to the North-East. “We are all about specialising in gorgeous occasion wear for a budget price,” says manager Rio Beadie. “We show customers you can look this good in our dresses for an affordable price tag.” Even in the bridal collection the most expensive dress is £99, in line with the current trend for weddings on a budget. But despite the lower price tags, the dresses don’t compromise on style; there is something to suit to every bride’s needs, as well as a collection of shoes, bags and bridesmaids’ dresses.

All Dressi’s stock is limited edition, and they only buy small quantities of each item to give their dresses an exclusive feel. “It makes girls feel extra special knowing they can look stunning and not bump into lots of other people who will be wearing that same dress,” says Rio.

The brand also focuses on prom dresses, which is a something of a rite of passage for teenagers – and increasingly expensive. It’s such a huge trend, girls are now buying their dresses as early as January to secure a show stopping, individual piece. For this year’s prom, Rio predicts tulle skirts and two-piece sets are going to be big. “They are already very popular in America,” she says. Teenage girls often feel pressure to spend hundreds of pounds on their prom dresses, but Dressi’s collection starts at £39 to make it more accessible to young girls.

Looking to the future, a Dressi boutique is a possibility. “We love would to open up a Dressi shop, so girls can come for an appointment, relax, and tell us exactly what they dream of wearing on their big day or their big prom night,” Rio says. “You can't buy anything like Dressi dresses on the high street. We’re fashion forward, we know what’s popular, and we know what’s flattering on all different shapes that girls will love to wear.”
