The Tearoom at The Black Swan Hotel, is a highlight of Helmsley for all those who love afternoon tea, and on December 7, they will celebrate their tenth anniversary. In December 2007, Marco Pierre White was guest of honour to open the Tearoom, which has become an integral part of the hotel’s unique character.

The antique grandfather clock, mismatched crockery, linen napkins, tiered cake stands and traditional silver cutlery, all add to the feel of country style and timeless charm, with award-winning afternoon tea served on vintage fine bone-china crockery, with dainty finger sandwiches, a selection of melt-in-the-mouth patisserie, with home-made scones, served with a choice of home-made preserves and thick clotted local cream.

There is a wonderful array of loose teas to choose from, the most popular choice is the “Black Swan Blend” (First Flush Assam and Ceylon teas) The more adventurous blends to try include Phoenix Oolong and Flowering Osmanthus.

  • To celebrate this milestone Birthday, the hotel is offering one lucky reader the chance to win Champagne afternoon tea for two. To enter, just tell us who opened the tearoom ten years ago. Email entries to competitions@northernecho.co.uk and put Black Swan in the subject line. The closing date is Monday, November 20, and usual Newsquest competition rules apply.
