X-Factor star James Arthur confirms split with Simon Cowell's company
X-FACTOR winner James Arthur has confirmed he has parted company with Simon Cowell's company Syco.
The Saltburn singer denied speculation earlier this year that he had been dropped after a series of public gaffes.
However, writing on Twitter earlier this evening he wrote: "Just to clear things up - I am no longer with Syco."
However, he tried to put a positive spin on the split, adding: "I would like to thank all at the label for making a great record with me.
"I now have to move on and do something different - the future is bright! #LOVE"
It was first reported that the 26-year-old was dropped by Syco after it emerged his song Follow The Leader included the lyric "I'm gonna blow up your family like I'm a terrorist."
Arthur took to Twitter in April to defend the song, which he insisted was "not promoting terrorism".
He said: "As far as I know, I am still with Syco but I am exclusively signed to Sony. People look too deeply into the media circus. It's about music."
It is the latest controversy for the star after a series of online blunders, including criticising his own publicity team for the messages they post on Twitter and temporarily leaving the social network after becoming embroiled in a homophobia row.
The singer, whose most recent single Get Down made it to just number 96 in the chart, said later of that incident that he was "disappointed in myself for being so naive".
Arthur, who won The X Factor in 2012, is one of several winners of the show who later parted company with Syco.
Matt Cardle, Joe McElderry and Steve Brookstein all failed to maintain chart success after their victories on the television show faded into the past.
Last week 2006 winner Leona Lewis announced she had left the company after seven years, signing a new deal with Island Records, part of rival music giant Universal.
Earlier yesterday, Arthur was confirmed as one of the acts for this summer's V Festival which takes place in August.
