Dogs, Sunderland Independent
DOGS are, without doubt,
one of the most exciting
bands Britain has
produced since punk peaked in
1977.
But for some reason they
have not made the transfer into
mainstream Carling Academy
sell-outs.
This set at Sunderland's
Independent, sort of summed it
all up really. The gig itself was
full of the blistering tracks like
Soldier On, This Stone is a
Bullet and the brilliant, Tuned to
a Different Station.
The twinned guitar rock and
roll that Dogs in which
specialise was in full motion,
yet there was that nagging
"they shouldn't be playing this
venue" feeling throughout.
It must be said that powermad
bouncers, who clearly had
egos to feed, didn't help the gig
by throwing people out for the
most minor of reasons.
Dogs have now produced two
great albums and have, sadly,
not really got anywhere in the
music world.
Unless they produce
something really special on a
third album that changes the
minds of the national music
press, who have never been on
their side, then Dogs are
destined to play this size venues
until they call it a day.
As it stands at the moment,
and it pains me to say it, Dogs
have missed the boat.
A real shame.
