All aboard for Thomas

ONE of the most famous trains in the land rolled into the Forum Theatre, Billingham, yesterday, when Thomas the Tank Engine came to life on stage.

Thomas, along with fellow engines Percy and Diesel, choo-chooed on the Island of Sodor in a production of Thomas & Friends Live! On Stage.

From the moment the curtain raised and Thomas wheeled to the front of the stage with sophisticated electronics, the young audience was captivated.

The 90-minute story told of how Thomas and his pals rescue the island's lantern festival from being cancelled after a couple of storms.

Joseph Fraser, aged two 'but nearly three', was heavily involved throughout the show. Asked what he thought, he said: "Choo, choo. I was really excited. I saw Thomas and Percy, and the Fat Controller even said 'hello' to me."

There were a few moments of hiding behind coats as Thomas and Percy went inside Diamond Mine in an attempt to find something to light up the broken lighthouse.

But, overall, everyone inside the Forum, including Joseph, was entertained and the rest of Thomas' fans should not miss out on the Themestar production's visit to the North-East.

There are still tickets available for the performances today and tomorrow, while Thomas will be back in the region in June when he heads to Newcastle's MetroRadio Arena.

Tickets for the Billingham performances are priced £19.50 for adults and £13.50 for children.
