Russell Brand unveiled the latest step in his ploy for a nationwide political revolution, his new film the Emporer’s New Clothes, co-produced by acclaimed filmmaker Michael Winterbottom.

Fellow celeb-turned-political-campaigner Brian May also popped up at the film’s screening.

During a question and answer session which was streamed globally via Periscope after the film’s screening, May told Brand he was a big fan of both the film and his work as a political activist, saying “you’re raising consciousness about what we need to do”.

May is fronting the “Campaign for Common Decency“, in which he is urging people to vote for an MP they support, rather than voting according to party. Most of all, May wants to get everyone down the polling station – including Russell.

He said “I think my strategy is so good that I could even get you to vote, Russell”.

However, Brand wasn’t keen on the idea. He said “It’s [voting] not relevant if you’re gonna do shit anyway”, and explained that rather than encouraging people to vote, he’d like to get them more involved in community issues and campaigns.

Brand said: “If elections exist for us as the people, we can have one whenever we want. We shouldn’t have to exist within the perimeters that have already been set for us.”
