THE press release that accompanies Beth Rowley's debut album describes the Bristol singer as a vintage blend of blues and soul with a joyous, contemporary edge. Does it remind you of anyone?

An inventive cover of Bob Dylan's I Shall Be Released suggests promise, and the gospelinfluenced One Cloud hints at a direction that might one day be her own.
For the moment, though, she will have to fight for recognition in the box into which she will inevitably be placed.
