Jazz vocalist returns to Durham for only North-East date
FORMER Durham student, Gwyneth
Herbert, returns to the city's Gala Theatre
next month as a highly-acclaimed jazz
vocalist.
While studying English Literature
at Durham University's St Chad's College,
Herbert began performing and touring
around the North-East with fellow student
and musician, Will Rutter, as a jazz duo,
Black Coffee.
This included regular
performances in the Intervals cafe bar at
the Gala Theatre.
In 2004 she was chosen
to open the London Jazz Festival and
received a nomination for the best new
artist in the BBC Jazz Awards.
Herbert released her third album, Between
Me and the Wardrobe, in August 2007 on
acclaimed jazz record label, Blue Note.
Her appearance on Friday, May 2, is her
only North-East date. Tickets: £11 (£9
