Folk
May 8, 2008
EYES down for a full house of folk this week across the region, starting tonight
with the rootsy Scottish band Shooglanifty at Gateshead's Sage. Tomorrow, while
I'm taking to the waves for a solo gig on the floating restaurant, the MV Ella
in Hartlepool's Marina, Vin Garbutt will be on dry land at Moorsholme Village
Hall.
Vin is alo at Thorganby Village Hall on Saturday and at Helmsley Arts Centre
on Sunday, as part of a weekend of concert that also features Last Night's Fun
on Friday, and The Bad Pennies and myself on Saturday. I'll also be doing a
songwriter's workshop on Sunday morning, so plenty to choose from there.
Note that Friday's concert at Reeth Memorial Hall with Peggy Seeger and Waterson/Carthy
is sold out, so don't turn up without a ticket. Saturday is also Local History
Day at Croxdale Community Centre, topped off by a Pitman's Social Night hosted
by former colliery deputy and noted raconteur Bert Draycott. Pat Wilson and
Paul Dalton are at Westoe Club in South Shields on Sunday, but Wednesday comes
out as busiest night of the week, with Vin Garbutt at Bishop Auckland Town Hall,
Jack Burness and Acoustica at Newcastle's Bridge and a special 60th birthday
celebration concert for Alistair Anderson at Gateshead's Sage. All in all a
sparkling week of folk music with much more to come in the weeks ahead.
