Wagner: Die Meistersinger 4CDs (ROHS008) This release from the Royal Opera House Heritage Series must rank as one of the finest interpretations of Wagner's Meistersinger. Recorded in July 1997, conductor Bernard Haitink is joined by a strong cast including John Tomlinson as Hans Sachs, Thomas Allen as Beckmesser and the late Swedish singer Gosta Winbergh as Walther. Compelling listening throughout.
Tortelier: Elgar, Brahms etc (BBC Legends BBCL4236-2) Paul Tortelier made his name championing Elgar's Cello Concerto. This is the only stereo live account him playing the work.
Sargent: Williams, Sibelius (BBCL42372) Sir Malcolm Sargent and the BBC Symphony Orchestra's stirring account of Vaughan Williams' Symphony No 4.
Tennstedt: Brahms (BBCL4234-2) Klaus Tennstedt is joined by the celebrated Lucia Popp in this spirited performance of Brahm's Ein deutsches Requiem, recorded live in 1984.
