REVIEWS
Nigel Kennedy: Beethoven/Mozart (EMI Classics 395 3732) Kennedy's star
remains undimmed as he takes on Beethoven's Violin Concerto. The use of an electric
violin for his cadenza in Mozart's Violin Concerto provides a contemporary edge,
while Kennedy remains faithful to the score.
Rostropovich: Tchaikovsky: The Collector's Edition 5CDs (EMI 519 4932)
Cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, who died a year ago, demonstrates why he was
hailed as one of the greatest musicians of our age as he breathes life into
all of Tchaikovsky's Symphonies.
Schubert: String Quintet in C (Virgin 502 1132) The Artemis Quartet
gives an eloquent rendition of Schubert's String Quintet, with Truls Mork as
second cellist.
Donizetti: La Fille du Regiment DVD (Virgin 519 0029) The Peruvian tenor
Juan Diego Florez has been famously breaking encore bans with an aria which
requires hitting nine high Cs, in this opera. He performs alongside Natalie
Dessay. Required viewing.
