REVIEWS

Yundi Li: Prokofiev/Ravel (DG4776593)

Yundi Li is joined by the Berliner Philharmoniker to perform Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No 2. The Ravel Piano Concerto, with its haunting and jazzy second movement, rounds off the programme. After tackling Chopin and Liszt, Li has produced another jewel.

Anne Sophie Von Otter (DG4777439)

The versatile Swedish mezzo-soprano presents a new album of songs. The collection, including works by Boldemann, Gefors and Hillborg, is at turns emotional and evocative.

Alfred Brendel: The Artist's Choice Collection (Decca 4780421, 8CD)

With The Sage Gateshead preparing to welcome pianist Alfred Brendel on April 20, this set is a reminder of his towering achievements. Eight superlative CDs, with recordings selected by the artist, cover the works of Beethoven, Schubert Mozart, Haydn and Liszt. A must.

Wagner: Der Fliegende Hollander (DG0734433)

This DVD contains Vaclav Kaslik's brilliant interpretation, filmed at the Bavaria Studios, in Munich in 1974.
