SOUND docks are a great way to share sounds on an iPod with friends but they aren't very portable.
It's a generally held belief that the bigger the speakers the better the sound.
The best docks are so big they effectively tether an iPod to your desk.
The Edifier iF350 is a portable dock with an internal rechargeable battery so you can take it with you on picnics or holidays.
In fact, it's just perfect for slipping into a backpack so you'll never be without a decent dock if you want to groove on the move.
It comes with a protective pouch to help keep the shiny black plastic scratch free and there's a dinky remote for controlling your playlists when you can't be bothered to get up.
It may be smaller than usual but the Edifier puts out some big sounds – treble frequencies don't sound tinny and don't become harsh at high volumes and there's a surprising amount of bass. The 12 watt output is good enough to fill a medium-sized room without driving the speakers too hard.
Heavy metal fans may want more bass thump but, for most of us, the Edifier has enough to fill out the sound nicely without overwhelming it and turning your tracks into a muddied mess.
The FM radio tuner is a nice added extra for those times when you just can't do without an episode of The Archers.
Edifier reckons the battery will last for 15 hours on a single charge. I tested it with my iPod and it was still pumping out sounds after a full day's use – which makes it the perfect companion for music on the move.
Good value for less than £100.
