A GIRL band from the region have reached the finals of one of Britain’s biggest talent competitions.
The five members of The Peppermints, all aged between ten and 12, from Hartlepool, are one of only 28 acts to make it the final of the Open Mic UK competition.
A total of 9,000 acts took part and The Peppermints are the only act from the North-East to make it to the finals.
“Words can’t describe how proud I am of the girls,” said their teacher Toni Parker-Harvey of The Northern School of Music.
“In the area final the girls were brilliant but, most importantly, they looked like they were having the time of their lives. They were all so happy, which can’t be choreographed or practised,”
Toni said the girls, Chloe Cannell-Cass, ten, Ellen Gowland, Olivia Stanton, and Emily O’Connelley, all aged 11, and Kelsey Sadler, 12, are competing in the under-16s section.
They have rehearsed together three times a week for three years and perform pop and rock classics such as Valerie and Living on a Prayer.
After winning through numerous area and regional heats they will now play at The O2 in London on Saturday.
There is more than £50,000 in prizes and the winning act will receive a contract, a tour and a £30,000 promotion budget.
The final will be filmed and shown on Sky TV. The girls are being sponsored by The Dog and Bull pub in Greatham, near Hartlepool.
