3:21pm Friday 20th January 2012 in Jazz By Peter Bevan
The usual generous selection of music on this four-CD set covers the alto player’s career from his first records in 1954 to his final quintet recording in 1967.
All his regular colleagues are included, especially drummer Phil Seaman and trumpeter Shake Keane as well as Bill Le Sage, Tony Kinsey and Ronnie Scott.
The music ranges from bop to ballads including sessions with big bands and strings and his complete Free Form LP.
The 24-page booklet gives Joe’s sad history and full details of all tracks.
