Rontgen Piano Concertos 2 and 4 (CPO 777 398-2)

Pianist Matthias Kirschnereit joined by the NDR Radiophilharmonie performs the first in a series dedicated to Julius Rontgen’s Piano Concertos.
Rontgen’s second piano concerto is clearly obliged to German romanticism in contrast to the fourth, which has its own distinctive character.
Kirschnereit rises to the challenges of the work first performed in 1907.
