Harry spends time with headmaster Albus Dumbledore (Gambon) and a Pensieve, delving into Voldemort’s past. The new Potions master, Horace Slughorn (Broadbent), may hold the key. This is a marked improvement on the fifth instalment, condensing JK Rowling’s hefty book into a mere 147 minutes. Visual effects are near flawless as usual, seamlessly melded with the live action, including the welcome return of Quidditch.

Inglourious Basterds

Simultaneously, a gang of merciless Jewish-American renegades, led by Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Pitt) and his loyal sergeants Donowitz (Roth) and Stiglitz (Schweiger), plot to blow up the cinema and kill the leaders of the Third Reich in Quentin Tarantino hit and miss movie.
