ANYONE who can win cycling’s Tour de France seven times, beat the big “C” and also conquer the harshest critics, surely deserves this title.

He is a supreme competitor in everything he does, but the going was brutal at the top and, as Wilcockson reveals, it was three women – his mother, his exwife and a one-time fiancée – who helped him carry on when the going got too rough. He may not be a charmer, but he is certainly in a class of his own.
