BRITAIN’S summer migrant birds such as the swift and spotted flycatcher, as well as the cuckoo are in decline, and this decline is depriving us of one of the greatest joys of spring.
As McCarthy points out, our spirits should be soaring with the arrival of the songbirds, but their disappearance from our skies is depressing and gives cause for alarm.
The natural balance is tipping and we are all the losers.
