THIS is a softback version of an excellent collection originally published four years ago.

Veteran compiler Cordelia Stamp often provides an engaging personal touch.

Her caption to a picture of the wonderfully complex Guinness Clock (1955) recalls: “I took some of my blind friends to ‘see’ it and they were allowed to touch it as well as hear the extraordinary sounds it produced.’’ Clearly more fun than a sensory garden.

Could Whitby persuade Guinness to re-create it?
