666 Charing Cross Road by Paul Magrs (HeadLine Review, £7.99)

666 Charing Cross Road by Paul Magrs (HeadLine Review, £7.99) 666 Charing Cross Road by Paul Magrs (HeadLine Review, £7.99)

MAGRS turned Whitby into Gothic City with his macabre tales of horror and magic and his wonderfully eccentric characters such as Brenda and Effie.

Now he spreads his wings and crosses the Atlantic to New York but seems to have left his magical powers behind him.

His tale of one undead woman (really a recycling of Brenda), one cursed book and an army of vampires is neither thrilling or chilling, or disarming or charming, and becomes tedious and predictable as the plot progresses.

Please, please, please Paul, return to your North-East roots. Gruesome Gothic sure does grow on you in Whitby – it merely withers away in Gotham City.
