REMEMBER Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper climbing into the saddle in Easy Rider? Well, meet Emmerdale’s Easy Riders – Alan Turner and his old pal Eddy Fox. When Eddy turns up in the village out of the blue, Alan’s love of the open road is rekindled although he’s unlikely to ever again feel the wind blowing through his hair because he hasn’t got as much as he used to have.
Alan is impressed to learn that Steady Eddy is heading for a trip around the world on his bike. The pair could team up and do a cooking programme of only the Hairy Bikers hadn’t got there first.
Hearing the two men recalling their days on the road (and possibly in the gutter after a few pints too many) gets old gals Betty, Pearl and Lily going. Or as going as you can get when you’re of pensionable age.
Lily, in particular, seems enamoured of Eddy’s steady stream of recollections. Has she got her eye on riding pillion?
Not everyone approves. Tightlipped Edna, a spoilsport who likes to keep herself to herself, thinks that Eddy is immature.
Elsewhere in Yorkshire farming country, there’s a new family to inspect. The Bartons. Father, mother, three children. All they need to do is mark their dance cards to see who’ll be sleeping with which village resident.
Dad John – who, if he doesn’t behave sensibly, may well have to be referred to as Dick – Barton is determined to make Butler’s Farm a success.
Bob’s Your Uncle Hope decides to forget wife Viv, who’s locked up behind bars (or so he thinks) and get on with his life. This means sleeping with Geenie. His timing is all wrong because before he can come clean to Viv, she turns up on the doorstep – only to be mistaken for a thief by Brenda. She could be back behind bars sooner than she thinks.
Fill the Fug gets out his gun when mum Peggy’s estranged husband Archie reappears in Albert Square in EastEnders (BBC1). Get out of town or else is the warning issued by Fill to evil Archie.
Why, you might be wondering, would pint-sized Peggy consider taking back Archie who’s done the dirty on her with his scheming plans. It’s the size of his donation.
He’s given loadsamoney to the kids’ talent contest to get himself in her good books.
Syed Masood is a man who wants it both ways. He beds Christian (a man) before proposing to Amira (a woman). Fed up with wrestling with his conscience, Syed decides to wrestle with Christian after spilling food down his T-shirt (well, it’s a good excuse to get his shirt off). Later, when Syed invites everyone to the Vic for an important announcement, Christian wonders if he’s going to out himself. Imagine his surprise when Syed asks Amira to marry him – and then asks Christian to help plan it.
There’s a shock for Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street (ITV1) when wife Claire collapses and is rushed to hospital. She’s suffering not from that wellknown soap ailment known as lack of storyline ,but a potentially deadly blood clot.
Jack Duckworth finds out something about his new lady friend Connie – she’s stinking rich.
She’s been reluctant to take him to her home until a missing pigeon forces her to show him. It’s a very des res miles away from the terraces and cobbles of Coronation Street..
Will their friendship survive this cash injection? Or is it doomed like Kevin and Good Golly Miss Molly’s affair. Kevin tells her they must end their affair. Then husband Tyrone surprises her with a holiday in Tenerife which she’s alarmed to discover he was encouraged to book by Kevin.
