GREAT Ayton-based youth theatre Crash Bang Wallop is staging its latest show, High Street Musical, and with 1,100 tickets for sale, it is set to be their largest audience and longestrunning show to date.
The show is based on the well-used story of “boy meets girl” but is kept surprisingly fresh by the enthusiasm of the cast. Using simple but effective scenery, the story moves swiftly through its obvious stages with plenty of humour and recognisable songs to keep everyone entertained.
The two lead characters – Troy, leader of the school basketball team, and Gabriella, a hopeful in the school maths team – are played convincingly by Adam Stokes and Roisin McLinden. The story centres around their decision to enter the school musical auditions and the basketball and maths teams efforts to keep them apart.
The 40-strong cast, aged between seven and 19, are well-rehearsed but brother and sister act, Sharpay and Ryan Evans (Hannah Gawthorpe and Tristan Robinson) and the brilliantly-portrayed Ms Darbus (Caroline Scott) have some real comedy moments which add an extra sparkle to an otherwise polished performance.
Show dates: Today, tomorrow and Sunday, then Wednesday, to next Friday.
Evening performances at 7.15pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm. Box Office: 01642-722192. Tickets: £8 adults (£6 concessions).
Anyone interested in joining Crash Bang Wallop is asked to phone 01642-288324.
