YOUNG pupils from Rainbow Hill Nursery, Durham High School for Girls, recently took a tour of local housing development The Drive, where they learnt about how houses are built and the different transport vehicles involved in the housebuilding process.

Led by Gary Hunt, the site manager at The Drive, the pupils donned high-vis jackets and hard hats and were taken on a tour around the David Wilson Homes’ site.

The site team gave the visiting group, aged between three and four, talks on a variety of topics involved with the construction and housing development.

As part of their visit, the class was also shown the building stages of a house, and were then able to see the finished product when the tour ended in a viewing of a show home.

The youngsters were tasked with spotting as many construction vehicles as possible during their visit, and were encouraged to find out what their purpose was on a construction site.

“We always work to support the communities that we’re building in, to give something back and to encourage more young people to consider a career in construction,” said Gary. “It was a pleasure being able to help get first-hand experience with their studies and it was great to see just how engaged they were throughout the morning.”

Lesley Mock, a nursery teacher at the school, added: “We’re very thankful for David Wilson Homes for letting us come for a tour of the development. It was great for the class to get out and further what they have been learning about. Gary was brilliant at answering all of our questions.”

The Drive at Mount Oswald has a range of three and four-bedroom homes available from £264,995 and is ideally located in Durham for commuters and growing families.
