Silver for relay team

Shaftesbury Barnet's senior team ran well to take second place behind Sale in the National Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park, Birmingham, on Sunday.

Their team, over the 4,800m course, was Caroline Walsh (15-05), Angela Joiner (14-48), Rita Quill (15-19) and Lucy Elliott (14-40), and they were 32 seconds behind the champions, who returned 59-19.

Shaftesbury's 'B' team, of Willemine Changuion, Lisa Hollick, Anne Ridley and Emma Booker, excelled in taking eighth place, and were easily the first 'B' team home. Lia and Emma were equal fastest for the team, recording 15min 26sec.

The U15s just missed out on a medal, taking fourth place, one second behind third-placed Cannock and only 11 seconds behind the winners Aldershot.

But there was a medal for SBH's Jessica Nugent, who ran the fastest time of the day for the 2,500m course, clocking 8-58, 13 seconds ahead of the next best athlete. She was joined in the team by Tara Weaver (9-30) and Lisa Gaul (10-06). The 'B' team, of Tamara Hutchinson (10-53), Lauren Pryor (10-55) and Jose Anne Wass (11-13) was 38th.

The U17s, placed 10th, would have ended much higher if Layla Hall had not fallen at the start of the first leg, doing well to complete the 3800m course. The team was Hall (13-52), Sarah Stanmore (13-42) and Jade Wright (13-47).

Jo Ankier (13-11) was back to her best for the 'B' team, placed 19th. Toki Graham (14-54) and Louise Griffiths (15-10) also ran . Running over the same 2,500m course, the U13s were 25th. Their team was Vicky Marshall (10-57), Claire Thompson (10-42) and Lauren O'Brien (11-43).
