MEMORIES likes to be topical and so for this week's archive section, we delved into the packet marked "Easter" in The Northern Echo's photo-library. The results were mixed, but there were some glimpses of life in years gone by – of thriving markets in Darlington and of a rather chilly-looking fairground on the beach at Redcar (that's today's front cover image, dated Easter 1962). Plus there was an intriguing selection of Easter egg pictures from 1986 – it looks as if someone, possibly even Sharon Griffiths, had done a tried and tested taste test on eggs costing £1.45. Sadly, all the pictures are in monochrome – as is widely known, there was no colour in life until the start of the 1990s. If any of these pictures trigger any thoughts or memories, please email chris.lloyd@nne.co.uk
